Hurricanes take Game 1 of ECJLL Final

2022-07-23

The Halifax Hurricanes came back from 2 goals down in the 3rd quarter to defeat the Sackville Wolves 6-4 and take a 1-0 series lead in the ECJLL Finals.

Both teams have high-scoring offense and stingy defense, but it was the stingy defense and excellent goaltending that prevailed in Game 1. The team were tied 1-1 after 1 quarter on goals by Francis Greyson for Halifax and Alfie West for Sackville.

The Wolves took a 3-1 lead into half on goals by Will Normandeau and Jack Dulong.  The Hurricanes made it 3-2 on a goal by Ben Allison (his first of 3) , but the Wolves responded less than 2 minutes later to take a 4-2 lead on a goal by Jordan Whitford.

It was all Halifax after that. Glen Holmes scored at 6:36 of the 3rd quarter to make it 4-3 and Ben Allison's goal less than a minute later tied the game at 4.  The teams played tied for the next 15 minutes, with big saves by both Gage McPhee of the Hurricanes and Noah Cox of the Wolves.

Francis Greyson scored the game-winner with just under 6 minutes left in the game, and Ben Allison completed a hat trick with an empty net goal with 9 seconds remaining.

Game 2 of this very exciting series goes Sunday night, 7:30pm in Spryfield.  A video streaming link will be posted on our social media channels on Sunday.
