The East Coast Junior lacrosse League (ECJLL), the premier box lacrosse league in Atlantic Canada, is excited to announce its intention to create a 4-team female division, commencing in 2022.
The ECJLL Female Division would welcome female lacrosse players born between 2001 and 2005 and is hopeful to have teams in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Each team would play a 12-game regular season schedule commencing in May, with playoffs commencing in late June.
The Female Division would play under the same rules, regulations, and game day standards as the current 6-team ECJLL coed division and would provide opportunities for females in Atlantic Canada to continue to play a high level of box lacrosse beyond the U16 age group.
The ECJLL Board of Directors has asked any association or organization interested in hosting a female junior box lacrosse team to submit an expression of interest by January 24th, with a detailed written proposal/application due by January 31st.
The ECJLL hopes to award the initial 4 franchises before the end of February to allow for the recruitment and drafting of players prior to the start of the season.
“With the growth of female lacrosse in Atlantic Canada and the addition of lacrosse to the Canada Games in 2022, the next organic step for growth in the game is the addition of a female Junior A league. The ECJLL is pleased to be able to provide increased opportunities for all athletes in the premier box lacrosse league in Atlantic Canada.” said Brendon Smithson, ECJLL Commissioner.
