Wolves Score 3 Goals in OT to take Game 1
2021-08-08Game 1 was very close, and it only made sense that the Wolves and Hurricanes would need OT to settle it. Ben McKay, Tyler Puma and Mike Anthony scored in OT as the Sportwheels Wolves pulled out a 9-7 victory over the Halifax Hurricanes.
The evenly matched teams split their season series, and even tied in head-to-head goal differential, so a close game was to be expected. The Hurricanes jumped to a 1-0 lead in the 1st quarter, but the Wolves came back to tie it at 3-3 at the half. The Wolves lead 5-4 after the 3rd quarter but the Hurricanes would not go away.
Jonah Glazebrook scored his 5th of 6 goals with 4 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter to tie the game and he scored his 6th goal of the game in the 10-minute overtime period, but the Wolves would not be denied at home and popped in 3 goals in OT to take the win and a 1-0 lead in their best-of-3 semi-final series.
The Wolves had a balanced scoring attack as 7 players scored including Zac Carrigan and Mike Anthony with 2 goals each, and Ben McKay, Alfie West, Mitch Broussard, Alex Bechard and Tyler Puma adding 1 goal each. It was the 1st goal of the season for West, Bechard and Puma. Noah Cox stood tall in nets for the win.
Conversely, the Hurricanes relied on Jonah Glazebrook to score 6 of the teams 7 goals (Will Holmes had the other marker). Nate Jollymore kept the Hurricanes in the game with some timely saves.
The teams will play Game 2 of the series on Monday night at 7:30pm in Spryfield. A reminder that tickets are not available at the door and must be arranged in advance with each team.
