Bandits Begin Garnet Knight Title Defense With a Win
2021-07-10Bandits picked up were they left off in 2019 with a strong 14-7 win over an improved Rebels team.
The Dartmouth Jr A Bandits started their long-awaited journey to a 5th consecutive ECJLL Championship and the Garnet Knight Cup. They opened their season at home Friday evening with a 14-7 win over the St. Margarets Bay Rebels. Bandits alumni, Mitch Hannigan, joined the Bandits bench for the first time as Head Coach, while the Rebels welcomed a new head coach to their bench, Steph LeBlanc of the Halifax Thunderbirds.
Jordan McKenna led the way for the Bandits with 8 points (3G and 5A), and Brett Draper with 5 points (3G and 2A). Dakota Morrisey and Tyson Carvery each added 2 goals, with singles to brothers Dalton and Keaton Browm, along with Luke Steinburg and Shamus Locke, who had his first ECJLL goal in last night’s game. The Bandits debude a new goalie, Keigan Horne, who notched his first ECJLL win.
This game also marked the return to the ECJLL of Liam McGrath with his first game since the 2017 season with the Mi'kmaw Warriors. McGrath reurns to his hometown Rebels after two seasons with the Orangeville Northmen. Liam scored 3 goals for the Rebels in his return, with Cam Pellerine notching 2 goals and singles to Luke Wilson (3 pts) and Max Pellerine. The Rebels also debude a new goalie, Cole Reschney, who has two assists for the Rebels.
Up next for the Rebels is their home opener this Sunday night as they welcome the Sportwheels Wolves in the 3rd game of a very busy ECJLL game weekend. The Bandits next game is also against the Sportwheels Wolves next Friday night (July 16) in Shearwater.
