Hurricanes Win the Opening Game of the 2021 Season

Twenty-three months after the final whistle of the 2019 season, the East Coast Junior A Lacrosse League (ECJLL) returned to action on Monday night, with the Halifax Hurricanes winning the first game of the season over the Sportwheels Wolves 7-4.

Twenty-three months after the final whistle of the 2019 season, the East Coast Junior A Lacrosse League (ECJLL) returned to action on Monday night, with the Halifax Hurricanes winning the first game of the season over the Sportwheels Wolves 7-4.

The Hurricanes led 5-2 at the end of the 3rd quarter before the Wolves scored both a power play and a short-handed goal early in the 4th quarter to make it 5-4. The Wolves were able to shut down a 5 minute penalty, but the Hurricanes scored twice in the final minutes to seal the win.

The Hurricanes were led by Jackson Davis with 2 goals and Glen Holmes with 1 goal and 3 assists. Also scoring for the Hurricanes were Jonah Glazebrook, Francis Greyson, Ben Allison, and Will Holmes.

For the Wolves, Ben McKay had 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist), Mitch Broussard had 1 goal and 2 assists, and Zac Carrigan had 1 goal.

There are four more games on tap this weekend with the Hurricanes traveling to Truro on Friday night to take on the Mi’kmaq Warriors and the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels heading to Shearwater to play the defending champion Dartmouth Bandits.  On Sunday, the Rebels host the Wolves and the Warriors travel to Halifax to take on the Hurricanes.

Due to current Covid protocols, spectators are limited to 18 per team, with all tickets being allocated directly by each team. There are no tickets available at the door.
