LNSS Update on COVID-19 April 22

2020-04-23

Lacrosse Nova Scotia has provided an update on 2020 season during COVID-19. The ECJLL connected with Lacrosse Nova Scotia to keep update on development and looking at all options for the 2020 season.

LNS Bulletin 3 COVID-19 Update

Everyone in Nova Scotia is going through a difficult time trying to put into perspective the current pandemic and the recent tragedy that took place in our province. In these uncertain times, it can be difficult to make decisions, not knowing what the coming weeks and months will bring.

Lacrosse Nova Scotia’s Board, along with the lacrosse leadership in our Clubs and Leagues, are doing our best to follow the directives given to us by our government and public health leaders. We are also thinking through potential alternative plans for how our sport reintroduces programming when the time comes that we are able to do this safely.

Currently, the majority of venues in Nova Scotia are closed to June 1st. While LNS postponed programming of in person lacrosse until May 15th, without access to venues, we must now postpone programming until June 1st, as well. In discussion with our Clubs and Leagues, we are considering options that include a shortened box lacrosse season and league formats, alternative lacrosse programs that can accommodate government directives, etc. Every decision must be based on access to venues, whether they are gyms, rinks or fields, as well as the health and safety of our Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Parents and Fans.

Further, we are awaiting a decision from the Canadian Lacrosse Association on whether National Tournaments will be held this year. We will have that information by May 15th. For now, we continue to plan programming for 2020, and will revise all plans as more information becomes available. Lacrosse in Nova Scotia has been around since the 1960’s for certain. This pandemic is a temporary obstacle for our sport but one that we will overcome. That is our history. We appreciate your patience, understanding and kindness as we all make the best of a difficult time as part of the larger sport community in Canada.
