Wolves take the series in overtime

2019-07-17

The Wolves knock of the Hurricanes in overtime to take the series 3-2 and move on to the ECJLL finals. A thrilling series that regulation was not enough took an extra ten minutes to decide this one.

Wed night saw Game 5 of the Sackville Wolves and Halifax Hurricanes play out at the Sackville Arena and there were many fans out to watch a great game of lacrosse.

With the series tied at 2 games apiece, both these teams were full of determination to be winner of this one to advance to the Championship. And Hurricanes quickly showed this determination with the first goal just 14 seconds off the first face off. Lots of action on both ends of the floor during this period, and at the end of the1st, it was tied 2-2.

Over the course of the 2nd period, Wolves got the run on scoring, netting 4 goals, while the Hurricanes were only able to add 2 goal. After 40 minutes of play, the Wolves led the Hurricanes 6-4.

In the 3rd period, the intensity of the game grew over the period, but the Wolves were only able to score 1 goal. The Hurricanes found their 2nd wind during these 20 minutes, blowing 3 goals passed the Wolves, including 1 with just 27 seconds left on the clock to tie up the game at the end to 7-7, to force the game into overtime!

Just like Game 1 of this series, Game 5 headed into overtime! Although each of the 4 games prior was won by the visiting team, Wolves were not letting this win leave Sackville, and worked together to score 2 goals while blanking the Hurricanes scoring efforts. Wolves won Game 5 with a score of 9-7!

Scoring for the Hurricanes was led by Ben Allison who had a hat trick. Also contributing to the Hurricanes‘ score were Will Holmes, David Rossiter, Jonah Glazebrook and Stu Smeltzer.

Wolves scoring team consisted of Zac Carrigan who also had a hattie, captain Mitchell Broussard who had a pair, and Alex Bechard, Ben McKay, assistant captain Chris Duplisea, and Laughlin Swain who all had a goal each.

These two teams ended this series the same as they had started - with lots of heart and determination, heading into overtimes to decide the outcome and treating lax fans to some great lacrosse action. Thank you Halifax Hurricanes and Sackville Wolves for a great season by both your teams and an awesome semi finals playoff series!

Sackville Wolves move onto the ECJLL 2019 Championship series where they will face off against Dartmouth Bandits. Game 1 is Tues, July 23 7:30pm at Shearwater Arena.
