2019-06-24

The Sackville Wolves Aflie West scores a short handed marker late in the 3rd to seal the win for the Wolves over the Hurricanes. The win confirms the Wolves a home playoff series and most likely against the Hurricanes

On Tuesday night, Sackville Wolves hosted the Halifax Hurricanes in the last match up between these 2 teams in regular season action and it was a hot one!!!

Wolves got the scoring started early by netting their first goal in just 31 seconds from first faceoff. Rebels replied very quickly after and despite a Hurricanes’ goal with just 27 seconds left in the period, Wolves were in the lead at the end with a 4-2 score over the Hurricanes.

2nd period had both teams turning up the intensity on the defensive side as both teams were only able to score 1 goal each over 20 minutes of play, ending in a 5-3 lead for the Wolves.

By the mid-point of the 3rd period, Hurricanes and Wolves were all tied up at 6 points apiece. The Wolves dialed it up another notch and after some fancy footwork by Wolves’ rookie Alfie West that resulted in a goal to break the tie. The Hurricanes tried hard to tie it up again, but in the end, Wolves ran away with the win with a final score of 8-6.

Hurricanes’ assistant captain David Rossiter led his team in scoring with a hat trick and an assist, with Glen Holmes adding 2 goals and Will Holmes adding 1 point to the scoreboard.

Scori8ng for the Wolves was led by captain Mitch Brossard who also had a hat trick. Zac Carrigan scored 2 points and 3 assists, as Alfie West added 2 goals as well.

Will we see these 2 teams matched up in the playoffs? Only a couple of weeks left in the regular season til we find out!
