2019-06-14

Mi'kmaq Warriors drop the Hurricanes in a defensive battle 8-6. This was the first time the Warriors have been the Hurricanes in their history, and kept themselves in the hunt for the final playoffs sport.

In Monday night lacrosse action, the Halifax Hurricanes hosted the Mi’kmaq Warriors in what would become a first for the Warriors!

The Warriors opened the scoring in just the first 20 seconds of the game. By the end of the period, they had put 2 more goals on the scoreboard, while not allowing the Hurricanes to get a single point. Warriors were leading the Hurricanes 3-0 at the end of the 1st.

In the 2nd period, Hurricanes got some wind under their feet, and started putting some numbers up on the scoreboard with 3 goals. Warriors replied with 2 goals of their own, and after 40 minutes of play, still led the Hurricanes 5-3.

During the final period, both these teams were determined to be the one taking the win this night and the play was evenly balanced. Warriors were first to add another 2 points to their score, when the Hurricanes replied with 2 of their own. Warriors gained another point with less than 5 minutes left to the game, but that didn’t stop the Hurricanes from trying to battle back when they scored another goal with only 91 seconds left. With a final score of 8-6, the Warriors took the win over the Hurricanes for the 1st time in Warriors’ 4 year history of matchups against the Hurricanes!

Warriors were led in scoring by Connor Sabattis who had 5 goals and an assist. Captain Connor Dennis led in assists on 6 of the goals and had 1 goal himself.

Hurricanes’ captain David Rossiter led his team in scoring with 3 goals and an assist. During this game, AP Tony Lynch had his 1st Jr A goal!

Hurricanes are next up in Friday Night Lacrosse as they head to Shearwater Arena to face the Dartmouth Bandits at 7:30pm. This will be a very exciting game as they always are between these two teams, so you’ll want to be there for all the action!!!
