2019-06-07

The Wolves home opener at the Sackville Arena treated the great crowd to a dominating victory 19-9 over the Warriors. These two also met in the Warriors home opener and game away with a win their too.

Tuesday night was the Sackville Wolves official home opener as they finally got to host a game in their home rink of Sackville Arena and their opponents for the night were the Mi’kmaq Warriors. It was also Jersey night and many young Wolves came to cheer on their Jr A team while proudly sporting their jerseys. Kevin Sandy, CEO of NAIG 2020, opened the evening for a few welcomingwords and did the ceremonial faceoff.

The Wolves hit the floor from the start with both a strong offence and defence and maintained this through the first 2 periods. In the 1st period, the Wolves scored 5 goals while not allowing the Warriors a single goal during the same period.

In the 2nd period, the Warriors were determined to get a goal on the Wolves net and were successful 4 times; however, the Wolves scoring was revved up as they put the 10 more goals on the scoreboard.

With the 3rd period, the Warriors continued to gain momentum in scoring and added 5 goals to their total, while holding the Wolves to only adding 4 to theirs. Unfortunately, it was not enough for the Warriors to take the lead, as the Wolves took the win with a final score of 19-9.

Warriors scoring leader was Kyle Langlios with 4 goals and an assist. Other Warriors goal scorers were Lewis Jarvie with 2 goals, and Connor Sabattis, Will Mix and Glen McAndrew who each had 1 goal.

Scoring for the Wolves was led by Zac Carrigan who had 6 goals and 4 assists, Mike Anthony who had a hat trick and 3 assists, captain Mitch Brossard who had 2goals and assisted on 6 others and Alfie West and Matt Duggan who both had 2 goals each.

Both the Warriors and Wolves see action this weekend against the NB Mavericks. Up first in Saturday night lacrosse action, Warriors host the Mavericks at 6pm in Truro. On Sunday afternoon, the Wolves face the Mavericks at the Sackville Arena at 2pm.
