Mavericks down the Warriors to even the season series
2019-05-29The Mavericks complete the sweep of games in Quispamsis over the weekend after beating the warriors in the 2nd of there two games. Another dominate performance by the Mavericks as they heat up in the season
On Sunday afternoon, the NB Mavericks hosted their second Jr A game in Quispamsis as they faced off against the Mi’kmaq Warriors. Lots of fans came out, many of the young ones in their lax jerseys, to see some great lacrosse action.
Mavericks showed off a strong team right from the start of the game as they were able to hold off the Warriors from scoring once during this period, while they put 3 goals on the scoreboard, ending the period in the lead 3-0.
Over the duration of the 2nd period, Mavericks revved up their game even stronger as they scored 6 more goals. Warriors started to see the Mavericks’ net in this period as they scored 3 goals, wrapping up 40 minutes of play finally on the scoreboard, but still behind the Mavericks 9-3.
With the 3rd period in play, Mavericks did not let up, nor did the Warriors who continued to battle. Mavericks matched their number of goals from the 2nd period, putting the ball in the Warriors’ net 6 times. The Warriors also matched their number of goals from the 2nd with another 3. Mavericks won their 2nd game of the weekend, with a score of 15-6 over the Warriors.
Warriors goal scorers were Connor Dennis with a hat trick, and Mackenzie Maloney, Bryson Knockwood and Christian Gloade all with 1 goal apiece.
Mavericks were led in scoring by Jake Mosher-McGraw who had 8 goals and 4 assists, and Jaden Hewey and Jack Buck who had 2 goals each.
Up next for the NB Mavericks is bringing Jr A lacrosse to the Fredericton area for the first time as they host a pair of games at the Grant Harvey Arena. On Sat, Jun 1 they face off against Sackville Wolves at 2pm. Then on Sun, Jun 2 at 2pm, the Dartmouth Bandits will be the Mavericks opponents. Looking forward to seeing all the lacrosse fans from the NB capital region coming out to cheer on these awesome teams!
