Hurricanes comeback fall short against the Bandits
2019-05-27In a classic ECJLL Match up the Bandits held off the Hurricanes on their home floor. After a dominate first period by the Bandits, it turned to all Hurricanes but solid defense by the Bandits in the 3rd kept the winning streak going at home
Saturday night was a fun time as the Dartmouth Bandits held their annual Jersey Day game and hosted the Halifax Hurricanes. Lax players from all levels showed up, proudly sporting their lax jerseys and ready to cheer on these 2 rival teams. Even representatives from the new NLL team, Halifax Thunderbirds, were there to share in the fun of the night, handing out some swag to all the fans. Before the game got underway, Bandits took a few moments to present representatives of Vets Canada with their own Bandits jersey as a way to say thank you and acknowledge the partnership and support between the Dartmouth Bandits and DND.
With the 1st face off, the action started and it was like Saturday night at the Roxbury (minus the awkward pickup lines and head-bobbing), but action packed all the same! Bandits offense was ramped up and on fire was they kept up the pressure on the Hurricanes defense and ended the 1st period leading with a score of 5-1.
Hurricanes found their wind in the 2nd period as the lax action was equal between these 2 teams. The Hurricanes were able to find the back of the Bandits’ net 3 times during the second 20 minutes of play, while keeping the Bandits to stealing only 2 opportunities to score on them. At the end of the 2nd period, the Bandits were still in the lead at 7-4.
After some 2nd intermission lax sills competition by some future Jr A superstars, both the Bandits and Hurricanes came out for the 3rd period revved up with determination to win and to take 1st place in the league. Once again, the Hurricanes outscored the Bandits in this period by 2-1, but unfortunately it was not enough to take the lead or first place from the Bandits. Bandits kept the Win at home and 1st place with a final score of 8-6.
Scoring for the Hurricanes’ were assistant captain David Rossiter who had 2 goals and 1 assist, Glen Holmes and Jonah Glazebrook who both had 1 goal and 3 assists each, and JD Todd with 1 goal.
Bandits were led in scoring by Dakota Morrisey who had 4 goals, by assistant captain Brett Draper who had 2 goals and 5 assists, and by Tyson Carvery who had 2 goals and an assist.
Thanks to all the fans, Vets Canada, Halifax Thunderbirds and lax family of both teams who came out to make this such a fun and special night!!
