Mavs drop the Rebels in the first ECJLL game in SJ

2019-05-27

The dynamic team of Jake Mosher and Jaden Hewey where too much for the Rebels defense on Saturday night. The Rebels where short from their regular roster but played the Mavs right till the end in the first ever game in Quispamsis.

The ECJLL came to the Saint John area in Saturday afternoon lax action as the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels travelled to Quispamsis to faceoff against the NB Mavericks. This was the first Jr. A lacrosse game to be played in this arena and the ECJLL and these teams were excited to showcase this awesome game to the lax fans of the area.

Being the home team, the NB Mavericks were determined to play hard and be the team who came out on top and in the 1st period, they definitely did that as they dominated the scoring and seeing the back of the Rebels’ net 5 times, while shutting out the Rebels from scoring in the first 20 minutes of the game, ending this period 5-0.

With the fans looking on, the Mavericks continued to control the scoring over the 2nd period, adding 3 more goals to their side of the scoreboard. Rebels finally got on the board in this period, getting 1 goal into the Mavericks’ net, ending 40 minutes of play in a trailing score of 8-1.

During the 3rd period, the Rebels fought back against their hosts, being successful in outscoring the Mavericks over the last 20 minutes of the game. Rebels scored 4 more goals, while the Mavs were only able to get 3 in the net. However, this successful period for the Rebels was not enough to take the game, as the Mavericks kept the win at home with a final score of 11-5.

Scoring for the Rebels was led by Thomas Fyfe who had 2 goals, while the remaining goal scorers were Max Pellerine, Ethan Locke and Brandon Scott (who also had 3 assists).

Mavericks’ scoring was shared by Jake Mosher-McGraw, who had 6 goals and 4 assists, and Jaden Hewey, who had 5 goals and 4 assists.

NB Mavericks will be hosting a second Jr A game today, Sun May 26, in Quispamsis as they take on the Mi’kmaq Warriors in a 2pm game!!
