Wolves and Bandits finish in a tie

2019-05-24

After 60 minutes nothing could be decided between the Wolves and Bandits leading to the 2nd tie in the ECJLL. A back and forth battle that had playoffs written all over it.

Tuesday night lacrosse action saw Sackville Wolves host the Dartmouth Bandits at BMO Centre in Bedford and keep the rivalry from their first exciting matchup going. With both teams having wins in their last games, there was much determination to keep a winning streak going and neither team disappointed in giving fans an exciting game of lacrosse to cheer on.

It took a few minutes of play before the Bandits were the first to score, but once the first goal was on the board, the action didn’t stop. The play and scoring was evenly balanced between the Bandits and Wolves and at the end of the 1st period, these two teams were tied at 4 goals a piece.

The 2nd period played out much like the previous 20 minutes with neither team dominating the play or the scoring and once again, the Bandits and Wolves ended the period in a second tie score on the board at 7-7.

With the 3rd period left to play, both teams continued to play hard and fast, giving the fans more and more to cheer about as each minute played on. With only 7 minutes left to play, it looked like the Bandits were about to steal the win from the Wolves as they lead 9-7, but the Wolves kept biting at the heels of the Bandits, seeing the back of the net finally after 13 minutes of play. Wolves kept up the pressure to the end, scoring with only 9 seconds left in the game to once more tie the game and end it in a tie of 9-9.

Dartmouth Bandits assistant captain, Brett Draper, led his team in scoring, putting 4 goals on the scoreboard and assisting on 3 others. Other goal scorers for the Bandits were Chris Malette, Dalton Brown, Dakota Morrisey, Luke Stienburg and Cody Carta-Bomersine.

Sackville Wolves were led in scoring by Zac Carrigan who had a hat trick and assisted on 4 other goals. Mike Anthony and Ben McKay each had 2 goals, while captain Ian Connors had a goal, as did Ryland Baird.

There is lots of more exciting lacrosse action coming up this weekend as the Sackville Wolves play again Friday night as they travel to Truro to face off against Mi’kmaq Warriors for an 8pm game. Saturday night, is Jersey night at Shearwater Arena as the Dartmouth Bandits host the Halifax Hurricanes at 7:3-pm.

And for the first time, the ECJLL will play 2 games in Quispamsis, NB as the NB Mavericks host St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels on Saturday and the Mi’kmaq Warriors on Sunday. Both games will be played at the Quispamsis Memorial Arena at 2pm. Looking forward to bringing our awesome Jr A lax action to the Saint John region!
