Bandits drop the Hurricanes in a defense battle

In a rematch of last years ECJLL finals, the Dartmouth Bandits and Halifax Hurricanes turned into a hard fought defensive battle, that saw only 3 goals scored after the first period. For the full story click read more
Monday night lax action had Dartmouth Bandits crossing the harbour to face off against the Halifax Hurricanes, their opponent in the 2018 ECJLL championship series. This was a much-anticipated matchup and neither team disappointed in giving the fans an exciting game.
Hurricanes quickly opened the scoring, finding the Bandits’ net in 16 seconds from the first faceoff. But the Bandits retaliated with a goal of their own just 13 seconds later. At the end of the first period, Hurricanes were leading the Bandits 4-2.
The 2nd period of this game in the “Sprydome” was a battle on the floor as these two teams played hard as the Bandits offense were able to score 3 more times and their defence denied the Hurricanes from scoring any goals during these 20 minutes of play. The score at the end of the 2nd was 5-4 for the Bandits.
Over the last 20 minutes of the game, both teams revved up their defense, not allowing any goals in from either side. Bandits took home their 4th win with a score of 5-4 over the Hurricanes.
Scoring for the Bandits was spread out evenly with 1 goal apiece by Chris Malette, Cody Carta-Bomersine, Matt Brenzel, Dakota Morrisey and Luke Stienburg. Goalie Ayden Pierro went 42 minutes of play without allowing any goals in.
Hurricanes players who saw the back of the net were Will Holmes, with 2 goals, David Rossiter with 1 goal and 1 assist, and Glen Holmes with 1 goal.
Halifax Hurricanes next see lax action as they travel to Moncton on Saturday, May 18 to face off against the NB Mavericks at the Kay/Lewisville Arena at 2pm.
Dartmouth Bandits next game is against the Sackville Wolves on Tuesday, May 21 at the BMO Centre Bedford at 7:30pm.
