Mavericks notch their first win of the season against the Rebels

In Saturday night ECJLL lax action, NB Mavericks travelled down to Bedford to face off against the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels at the BMO Centre
In Saturday night ECJLL lax action, NB Mavericks travelled down to Bedford to face off against the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels at the BMO Centre. Mavericks were revved up and looking for a win after a previous weekend of loses while the Rebels were looking to build on a win after the home opening winner.
Mavericks were the first to put a goal on the scoreboard and began their domination of this game. Rebels were only able to see the back of the net once in this period and fell behind to the Mavericks who ended the 1st period 4-1.
The 2nd period saw a very fired up Rebels team who battled hard against the Mavericks to close the point spread, scoring 5 goals in this period. Mavericks matched their goals from the first period, doubling their score and ending the 2nd still leading the Rebels 8-6.
Mavericks continued their domination of their host’s rink in the 3rd period as they prohibited the Rebels from scoring in the last 20 minutes of play, and adding 5 more points to the own score, winning their first game of the season 13-6.
Scoring leaders for the Marvericks were Jaden Hewey who had 4 goals and 3 assists, and John Farrell who had 4 goals as well.
Rebels scoring leader was Luke Wilson who had 2 goals and an assist. Two other Rebels saw their first Jr. A goals, as rookie Brandon Scott, who has assisted on a number of goals, finally saw the net himself, as did AP Jacob Gagnon.
Next game on the ECJLL schedule is a big game as 2 Jr. A teams travel outside their HRM home rinks to play in the valley in Kingston, NS. Again, the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels are on the floor, this time against the Sackville Wolves at Credit Union Centre Arena for a 7:30pm game start. The ECJLL and the teams are very excited to bring the game to the valley and to see all our valley fans there!!
