Warriors and Rebels tie in Rebels home opener

2019-05-09

Rebels begin a new ear with this first home opener as the St Margaret's Bay Rebels. A lively crowd was treated to a game that couldn't be decided in 60 mins ending in a 8-8 tie.

There was a new era of lacrosse on Wednesday night as the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels hit their new home floor at the BMO Centre for the first time and were looking to take their 1st win at home with the fans behind them. As part of Opening Ceremonies, the Rebels acknowledged all the work of the St. Margaret’s Bay Storm Minor Lacrosse program in helping them put together a great Jr A organization for the 2019 season. As a thank you, the Rebels presented Storm President, Tim Muise with his own Rebels jersey for all his hard work.

The Rebels hosted the Mi’kmaq Warriors who travelled into town and these 2 teams gave the fans an exciting game that could have not been predicted. Rebels opened the scoring in the 1st period and put 2 goals on the scoreboard before the Warriors could reply with one of their own, but at the end of the first 20 minutes of play, these 2 teams were tied up at 3 points apiece.
In the 2nd period, the Warriors were first to score 2 goals, both within the first 3 minutes of the period, before the Rebels were able to score and then seem to dominate the rest of the period with adding 2 more goals, bringing the score to 6-4. However, the Warriors saw the net with 2 minutes left in the 2nd and ending this period in yet another tie, 6-6.

With the 3rd period upon them, these 2 teams continued to battle hard on the floor and treat the fans to an exciting game that lacrosse is. Again the Warriors scored first and took the lead, but the Rebels quickly replied with one of their own and then again saw the net just 2 minutes later. The Rebels held the lead by 1 point for the next 5 minutes, until the Warriors scored a goal to tie up the game for a third time. The remainder of the game, the defense of both teams did a great job on denying any more goals and this 1st home game for the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels ended in an 8-8 tie!!!

Scoring leader for the Rebels was assistant captain, Zach Whitford who had 5 goals in this game, with Cam Jackman adding 2 goals to the board as well. Ethan Locke also had a goal in this game.

Warriors scoring leaders was captain Connor Dennis with 3 goals, and Bryson Knockwood with 2 goals and an assist. Other Warriors who each had 1 goal in this game were assistant captain Connor Sabattis, Mackenzie Maloney, and Jordan Whitford.

Start making your weekend lacrosse plans starting with your choice of 2 games on Friday night. Head over to the Shearwater Rink for 730pm as the Dartmouth Bandits are at home to the Sackville Wolves. Or hop in the car and head to the hub of the Nova Scotia, Truro, as the Mi’kmaq Warriors host the Halifax Hurricanes at the Colchester Legion Stadium starting at 8pm.
