Hurricanes complete the comeback to take their home opener

Halifax Hurricanes come back in a whirlwind of goals to swoop up the win over the NB Mavericks!

The ECJLL season opening weekend continued on Saturday night with the Halifax Hurricanes back at home in the Spryfield Lions Rink after a season of the rink being closed for renovations, where they hosted the NB Mavericks.

The Mavericks dominated the scoring in the first period in scoring 6 goals and goalie Keegan Delaney held off the Hurricanes from seeing the net even once. At the end of the first, the scoreboard was in favor of the Mavericks 6-0.

With the 2nd period underway, the Hurricanes started to pick up the momentum and started their scoring streak, burying the ball 5 times to Mavericks 2 goals. In this 20 mins of play, Hurricanes did close the point spread, with Mavericks still up 8-5.

In the 3rd, the brewing storm really picked up speed as the Hurricanes took over the scoring and putting 7 more goals in the Mavericks net while allowing only 1 Mavs goal into their own net. Hurricanes win their home opener 12 – 9 over the Mavericks.

Scoring on the Mavericks team was led by rookie Chris Meredith who had 2 goals and 2 assists, while Remi Theriault and John Farrell both had 2 goals a piece.

Hurricanes scoring leaders were Glen Holmes, who had 2 goals and 3 assists, and Will Holmes with 2 goals and 1 assist. Rookie Ben Allison saw his first Jr A goal in this game as well as assisting on another.
