2018-07-16

Monday night the Hurricanes took control in the final 8 minutes to down the Wolves 12 - 8 in Game #5 of their series. In one of the most exciting series in ECJLL playoffs, these two battle right until the final seconds.

Wow! Game 5 of the semi-final playoff series between Halifax Hurricanes and Sackville Wolves was as exciting as we predicted! With both teams facing elimination or moving onto the championship, both these teams were hungry for the win. The stands were full of fans who were treated to a fast-paced, hard-played Jr A game.

In the 1st period, Wolves opened the scoring almost 4 minutes into the game and for every Wolves' goal, the Hurricanes replied with their own. The score was ties at 3 all at 11:12 left in the period and both defences stepped up and didn't allow another goal in for the remainder of the period.

With their eye on the prize, the Wolves came out in the second, ramping up the scoring, putting 4 goals on the scoreboard. Wolves goalie Alex Mitchell kept the Hurricanes scoring down to only 1 goal in this period. After 40 mins of play, the Wolves were leading the Hurricanes 7-4, but the crucial 3rd period was coming up.

Hurricanes came out on the floor in the 3rd having gotten their second wind and full of determination. They opened the scoring 3 minutes into the period and each time they scored, they quickly scored again after. With 8:45 left on the clock, it was again a tie game at 8-8, but the battle continued. Hurricanes goal Matt Kent kept the Wolves at bay, not allowing another goal in for the rest of the period, while his teammates continued to blast the Wolves net with another 4 goals, including the last one with only 6 secs on the clock!

Wolves' Zac Carrigan led his team in scoring with 3 goals and an assist, as Mitch Brossard added 2 goals to the scoreboard, while Matt Duggan, Mark Seward and Lauchlin Swain each added a goal.

Hurricanes' Luke Smeltzer had a hat trick and an assist in this game, Jonah Glazebrook also had 3 goals, as Matt Orman and Glen Holmes each netted 2 goals, while Will Holmes and Matt Kent each had a goal.

Hurricanes move onto the ECJLL Championship series where they will faceoff against the Dartmouth Bandits in another best of 5. First game goes tonight at Dartmouth 4Pad Rink A at 7:30pm. Come on out to see some great Jr A action.
