2018-06-24

On Sunday, Win and your in game the New Brunswick Mavericks proved to be too much for the Warriors as Jake Mosher-McGraw has 14 points to lead the Mavericks to victory

On Sun afternoon, the NB Mavericks travelled to Truro for their final regular season game to faceoff against the Mi'kmaq Warriors in a "win and you're in" game to the playoffs.

With this being Warriors last home game, they took a few minutes to present their annual Terry Hunt Award, an annual award presented to the player of the team who exemplifies outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, passion, commitment, volunteer work and helping build the sport of lacrosse. This year, Warriors player Mackenie Maloney was the presented this honor. As well, the Warriors acknowledged their senior players who have been with the team from the beginning, helping to build the team, and who have contributed so much to this young team, captain Chris Burgess and defenceman Tyler Douglas.

As both teams took the floor, there was lots of energy and determination in the buiiding as each of these EJCLL teams were on a mission to grab the last playoff spot. Mavericks scored early and kept up the scoring through the 1st period, ending the first 20 mins of play up 9-3 over the Warriors.

Through the second period, Warriors tried hard to keep up their defence, allowing the Mavericks to score only 5 goals over the next 20 mins of play, and scoring 2 goals themselves, ending the period 14-5. With the third period in play, Warriors fought hard and left everything on the floor, but unfortunately it was not to be for the Truro team, as the Mavericks were strong in this period, scoring 7 to the Warriors' 3, ending the game 21-8 for the Mavericks.

With this win, NB Mavericks have clinched the final playoff spot in the ECJLL.

Mavericks powerhouse scorer Jake Mosher-McGraw had 11 goals and 3 assists, while Jaden Hewey also led with 4 goals and 2 assists.

Warriors were led in scoring by Bryson Knockwood who added 3 goals and 2 assists to his points total, as Zack Whitford put in 2 goals and had an assist. Other scorers for the Warriors were Jordan Whitford, Mackenzie Maloney and Connor Dennis.

Up next on the ECJLL schedule is the Halifax Hurricanes playing the Sackville Wolves tonight, Tues, Jun 26 at Sackville Rink at 7:30. This will be the Hurricanes last regular season game and this will be a fast paced game. So come on out to cheer these teams on!!!
