Getting To Know.... Kirk Drabble, Hurricanes
2018-02-07Our Getting to Know…. feature section has been letting fans know more about players within our league. This time we are connecting with the Halifax Southwest Hurricanes and transition specialist Kirk Drabble.
In 2018, Kirk will begin his 3rd season with the Hurricanes, who will be looking to capture the ECJLL championship after falling to Dartmouth last season. On a star-studded Hurricanes team, Kirk has found his role as transition player for the Hurricanes. Transition players are often unsung heroes within a team; Kirk’s commitment, dedication, hard work, character has made him the perfect fit for a transition player. As a more veteran player, Kirk will be looked heavily upon to lead not only in the locker room, but also on the floor taking the team to a new level in 2018.
This fall Kirk enrolled into Dalhousie University and began his university lacrosse career with Tigers. In his freshmen season he continued to be part of the tradition of the best defensive team in MUFLL and helped the Tigers capture their seventh straight MUFLL championship. The Tigers are not Kirk’s only field experience as he has also played for the Nova Scotia Provincial Field program, as one of the leaders as a middy.
Kirk has honed his lacrosse skill playing at every level and discipline in Nova Scotia Lacrosse. His experience has made him one of the smartest players in the game, as he is a true student of the game, always looking to improve his game. Kirk will be looking to up his game this year and bring the Hurricanes back to the promise land and the ECJLL Championship.
Kirk is not only known for his commitment and dedication on the floor, but his support of our next generation of players through coaching. The past two seasons Kirk has been assistant coach of the Nova Scotia Provincial Midget team. Kirk’s commitment to grow the game has brought Nova Scotia Lacrosse to new levels coaching the Midget teams to wins over national powerhouses BC and Alberta. Kirk is a role model to many youth within Nova Scotia as he continues to teach the next generation of players not only excel at the game, but find their passion.

The highlight of my lacrosse career was being a part of the first Nova Scotia Provincial Team to defeat Alberta and tie BC and at the 2015 Canadian Box Lacrosse Nationals; when it came down to goals for and against, our team was one goal short of advancing to the Gold Medal qualifier. Immediately following nationals was the opportunity to try out for Team Canada in the U17 division; although I got cut in the final round as a 16-year-old, playing with the top 16 and 17-years olds in the country was an incredible experience.
