Getting To Know.... Mark Seward, Lions

2018-01-31

January 2018 ends, we move one month closer to the start of the ECJLL season. As the excitement builds towards the 2018 season, our Getting To Know feature section will hit on another pick from the strong 2016 Midget Draft from the NorthWest Marley Lions Mark Seward.

Mark was taken #5 overall by the NorthWest Marley Lions in the 2016 ECJLL Midget Draft.  The Lions had been making moves to increase draft picks in the 2016 Midget Draft for two reason: 1. The draft had been considered one of the deepest entry in years; and 2. To replace the loss of two ECJLL All-stars Paddy Quinn and Gavin Quigley.

In Mark’s freshmen season, he joined a loaded Lions team looking to get back to the ECJLL Championship.  Mark filled any role needed on the team while contributing to the team’s success by notching 12 points as a defensive player.  Mark filled the voids left by graduating seniors and an important role player in getting the Lions back to the ECJLL Championships.  In 2017 with John MacDonald finishing his career for the Lions, Mark’s role and responsibility increased, which he handled in spades and doubled his point production in his second year to 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists) and 4th overall on the team.  Mark also made a name for himself as one of the premier faceoff men in the league.  In the 2018 ECJLL Midget Draft the Lions selected six players in the top 10, which new coach Paddy Quinn will look to players like Mark to lead as the new generation of Lions look to make a name for themselves.

Mark has been a true versatile player in the ECJLL, dominating at the faceoffs, leader in the Lions transition game while bring it at both ends of the floor.  After a disappointing 2017 season for the Lions, which saw them miss the playoffs for the first time in countless years, Mark along with a young core of players selected in the 2018 ECJLL Midget Draft will be looking to lead the Lions back to the playoffs in 2018.
