Mavericks reveal Jeremy Vautour’s Coaching Staff for the 2018 Season

2018-01-21

The New Brunswick Mavericks have been hard at work rounding out head coach Jeremy Vautour’s coaching staff and the team has officially announced three members to this all-important group.

Coming off an early first round exit in the playoffs last season former Head Coach and New General Manager Evan Richtsfeld had decided change was in order. So, earlier this month he had stepped down as Head Coach and appointed Jeremy Vautour as his replacement.

It hasn’t taken Vautour long to assemble a dynamic staff of assistants that bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table for the new Mavericks regime. The Mavericks announcements on Thursday included Defensive Coordinator, Forest Keeghan McLeod, Offensive Coordinator, Mac Huckla, and Goaltending Coach Shayne Delaney.

Defensive Coordinator Forest Keeghan McLeod started playing minor box lacrosse in Barrie, ON. After finishing his minor lacrosse in Barrie, he made the move to Ottawa where he played Jr. B for the Nepean Knights. McLeod also spent time playing field lacrosse with the Edge Lacrosse program and did a post Grad Year at the Hill Academy. “I’m very excited to give a hand in the development of the game I love, in my birth province. I look forward to building a strong defence with the Mavericks based on discipline and teamwork” said McLeod.

Originally from St. Catharines, ON, the Mavericks new Offensive Coordinator, Mac Huckla, has been involved in lacrosse for over 22 years. His playing career involved spending time with the Hamilton Jr. B & C Bengals program in Ontario. Huckla is also currently appointed as the Head Coach of the UNB Field Lacrosse Program in Fredericton, NB. “I can’t wait to build a winning and tight culture around the program and make magic on the offensive side of the ball” said Huckla.

Finally, Goaltending Coach Shayne Delaney will be returning for his eighth season with the Mavericks program and third as a coach. Originally from Moncton, NB, Delaney played his minor lacrosse with the Codiac Strom in Moncton and spent 5 years as the Mavericks Goaltender. “I am very excited to be able to pass on my knowledge of the game to foster a winning atmosphere for our program” mentions Delaney.

All three coaches represent a major change in the Mavericks program moving forward. The experience that each coach brings to the game will further help develop and aid the program in reaching new heights. “I am thrilled to have Mac [Huckla], Keeghan [McLeod] and Shayne [Delaney] join our coaching staff” Said Vautour.  “I believe that it will be invaluable to have them share their knowledge and passion for the game to our team. I am excited to begin working with them and I am confident in their abilities to bring out the best in our athletes.”

The Mavericks are still looking for one more assistant coach for the 2018 season. Interested candidates should contact Mavericks General Manager - Evan Richtsfeld at evan.richtsfeld@unb.ca
