NB Mavericks Announce Coaching Change, Jeremy Vautour named Mavericks New Head Coach, Evan Richtsfeld to take on new role as General Manager

The New Brunswick Mavericks have announced some major changes to their coaching staff for the 2018 season. Head Coach Evan Richtsfeld will be stepping down from his role, but will remain with the team as General Manager moving forward. Richtsfeld had spent two seasons as a part of the Mavericks coaching staff finishing with a 12-14 record over that time and two playoff berths.

His replacement will be former Maverick great and Hampton, New Brunswick native, Jeremy Vautour. “I am ecstatic to have Jeremy lead our team moving forward,” said Richtsfeld. “Jeremy has been immersed in Lacrosse for years now, attended multiple national championships, and understands what it takes to build a sustainable winning lacrosse program and is highly respected for his lacrosse acumen.  We know we have a critical and very positive opportunity ahead of us to greatly impact the foundation of this lacrosse team.  Bringing in someone of Jeremy’s caliber, his track record of success and his experience, significantly strengthens our opportunities to build a winning lacrosse team and that has been, and continues to be, what we want for our fans.”

Vautour spent time at St. Lawrence University where he was named Liberty League Lacrosse First-Team All-League, USILA Scholar All-American, and All-ECAC, Second-Team, and was selected as a captain for the Saints in all 4 years at St. Lawrence. He also spent time Barrie Lakeshores of the Ontario Jr. A Lacrosse League and attended two founder’s cups in 2010 and 2014 and a president’s cup this past summer with the Nova Scotia Privateers. “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to begin my coaching career with the Mavericks organization” Said Vautour. Having spent my last years playing lacrosse in the U.S. and Ontario, it feels really good to be put in a position where I can give back to the lacrosse club and community that has done so much for me.”

New Brunswick will look to build on a solid 2017 season. The Mavs finished their regular season with a record of 7-8 and followed that up with a playoff appearance against the Halifax Southwest Hurricanes. “It was another solid season for us, I feel that we have a great opportunity to build on the experiences of last season” said Richtsfeld. The Mavericks will return the majority of their roster for next season only losing four players from 2017. “It’s exciting to see the balance between returning players and potential prospect the team has this year” said Vautour. “Experience goes a long way in the later weeks of a season and I think it will also help in the development of our younger athletes.”
