Koneczny and Fyfe Appointed as Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner

2017-03-10

Chet Koneczny and Stephen Fyfe have been appointed to the ECJLL Executive for the 2017 season. They bring a wealth of experience, and will hit the ground running leading into the 2017 season.

The East Coast Junior Lacrosse League’s search for a new commissioner has ended. Chet Koneczny has been appointed the ECJLL Commissioner for the 2017 ECJLL season.

Originally born in Nova Scotia and moving to Ontario at a young age. After playing Junior A and Junior B in Ontario, Chet was taken in the 3rd round of the NLL Draft in 2004 by the Toronto Rock. He spent time with Orlando, Washington, and Colorado.

Following his professional career Chet returned to Nova Scotia to continue professionaly as the Technical Director for Lacrosse Nova Scotia. Over his three year term he has contributed significantly to initiatives within his role, and outside of his role. Most notably, coaching the Nova Scotia Founders team in 2016, Chet has also been behind the bench of the Midget Provincial team for two years as well as the Mi’kmaq Warriors during their inaugural season.

Not only a player at home, Chet has also spent time playing internationally. He was a member of the Czech Republic team that played in the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships as well as the 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. He has also played and helped to coach the Nova Scotia Privateers that compete in Prague each year.

“Chet brings a great level of experience, and connections that will grow the league in a fantastic way. I’m looking forward to working with Chet on future initiatives,” said recently appointed Deputy Commissioner Stephen Fyfe.

Stephen Fyfe will also bring a breadth of experience to the board, after being appointed in February. He has spent time coaching provincially both in field and box lacrosse and was Captain and Player Manager for the Dalhousie University Field lacrosse team of the Maritime University Field Lacrosse League.

Fyfe and Koneczny will be the brain trust tasked with leading the ECJLL into an exciting 2017 season. There are plans to take significant steps to establish the strategic outlook of the league going forward. All six teams will be back and the league will kick things off at the end of April with the ECJLL Spring Jam in Truro.

The ECJLL Board is now full after years of vacant positions. The board welcomes Stephen and Chet for their experience, knowledge of the game, and perseverance as it strives for balance and continuity in the years to come.

Join us in congratulating Chet and Stephen on their successes and we welcome them into our community with open arms!
