The last month saw 10 players and 17 drafts picks trade, making this the busiest off season in ECJLL history.  Scott Smith ECJLL commissioner walked up to the podium 20 minutes before the start of the draft to announce one last trade, which might have been the biggest of the off season.  The trade saw the Sackville Wolves and Mi’kmaq Warriors change the face of their franchise with one move.

The Sackville Wolves sent Mi’kmaq players Bryson Knockwood and Matt Pennell along with Truro native Chris Burgess and 2015 2nd round MUFLL pick to the Warriors.  In return, the Mi’kmaq Warriors sent their 2015 1st and 2nd round picks to the Sackville Wolves.

Last season, Bryson Knockwood helped lead the Sackville Midget’s to a silver medal in the mmll, while finishing 2nd in team scoring for the Wolves.  Bryson and Matt Pennell were teammates for 2015 Nova Scotia NAIG lacrosse team, where they finished top 2 in team scoring.  Chris Burgess taken 4th overall in the 2014 ECJLL draft has been the face of Truro Minor Lacrosse for many years and now will have the opportunity to play on his home floor.  Chris recorded 10 points with the Wolves last year and will be entering his 2nd Jr A season.  Mi’kmaq Warrior’s General Manager Brendon Smithson commented on the trade “It is never easy moving the 1st overall pick, but when you have an opportunity to pick up 4 players that align with your team goals you can’t pass that up.  These players have a passion for their community and culture, and will be role models for future Mi’kmaq Warrior players.”

The addition of the two draft picks gave the Wolves five picks in the first two rounds of the 2015 ECJLL draft.  With the two Warriors picks the Wolves selected Connor Aquanno and Devon Collard.  Connor Aquanno now becomes the face of the franchise.  Last year, Connor was named captain of the provincial box and field team along with winning the scoring title in Midget Select with 56 points (19g, 37a).  Devon Collard a teammate of Connor’s recorded 13 pts (3g, 10a) in 2014 and will join many of his Bedford teammates this year on the Wolves.
